Should I represent myself in court as Pro Se or hiring a Paralegal or Document Preparer Person?
However, Paralegals or Document Preparer individuals are not Licensing to practice law neither they can represent you in Court so they may draft brilliant Motions, Pleadings, Petitions or Complaints nonetheless you will need to apply the laws and civil procedures in Court by oral arguments in order to support your case and successfully prevail in Court not an easy task. I can tell you from experience it will not be like Judge Judy TV show so don’t expect that on your day in court.
We are not trying to discouraged you from using a Paralegal Services Provider but instead to bring you reality before you lose your money and now your case are facing with the legal consequences which sometimes are without any legal remedies of law to save you. Since Paralegals are not regulated or licensed in the State of Florida you don’t have many recourses against them neither if any wrong doing occurs as the result of their work provider to you, not many laws to protect you.
If you are going to hire a Paralegal pay a lawyer to review the work of the paralegal and to also advise you what are your causes of action, trust me this is the minimum you should do it will be worthy, keeping in mind that if you are suing someone and you are not entitled to any relief by law you may have to pay attorney fees to the opponent side as the result of your frivolous lawsuit.
I know very well what it takes to represent myself in court I was forced to represent myself before in a litigious custody battle since I could no longer afford the fees of a competent attorney to represent me. Have you noticed I used the word competent attorney?
The reason I mentioned the word “Competent Attorney” is to emphasize that sometimes you will get a cheap lawyer only and cheap lawyers may also be a bad decision on your part, not to say that the most expensive lawyer will be the best for you, not at all, you should follow my previous advices given here in this site before hiring a lawyer.
In my case I worked in the legal field for many years as a Paralegal and went to law school I also knew many attorneys I worked with or had some other type of professional interactions. I was very familiar with the most recent family law cases rulings in Florida and the names of many very experienced attorneys involved on those rulings, plus I did what I told you to do I read many cases, the local rules, State rules of civil procedures and all of the statutes that would apply to my child custody case. additionally, I still read and have watched many appellate cases in different areas of law held here in Florida this is some kind of hobbies that I have.
I had developed a strategy of paying for legal advice and use those advices in my oral arguments along with memorandum of law I drafted all in supporting my case.
I remember paying a $500.00 an hour to one attorney which I visited him a couple times paying $500.00 per hour each time, believe or not the most valuable advice he gave me was to change my mind as to what I was pursuing and gain advantages on my case in other areas which I was not taking as priority, he also got me to realized that my case was the most important to me but not to the legal system and the results I was expecting would take time and lots of money making this an unsurmountable decision if I would continue with the same legal strategy.
Soon I will be releasing a book showing how I was able to represent myself successfully against other attorneys, however if I could hire a competent attorney I would not think twice to do so. “When you represent yourself, you have a fool for a client” true statement from Abraham Lincoln he had right!
I only represented myself because my child is important to me and I hate injustice.
However, if you are facing a legal issue and can’t hire a competent attorney like it was my case, there is some resources available that you may qualify, call us we may be able to provide you helpful information of organizations in your area that may be able to assist you or we may have an attorney that could help.
